“Dauerzustand” portrays Uwe and his family. The Parkinson’s diagnosis marks a turning point in Uwe’s life and prompts him to look back on his past. In doing so, he reproaches himself for not having been present enough as a father. The film also focuses on his relationship with his wife Regine and the question of future care. “Dauerzustand” is an intimate, intergenerational family portrait that sparks a discourse on fatherhood and family roles, while also asking how a family deals with a member’s illness—especially when it becomes mentally overwhelming.
